Khadija bint Khuwaylid, a noble and esteemed figure in Islamic history, played a pivotal role in the life of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) and the early days of Islam.
Beyond her significant contributions as the Prophet's wife, Khadija was a successful businesswoman, an embodiment of strength and determination.
Before her marriage to the Prophet (peace be upon him), Khadija was already a prominent businesswoman in her own right.
She possessed exceptional intelligence, integrity, and shrewdness in trade. Her business ventures spanned across vast territories between modern day nations, all the way from Mecca to Syria then back to Yemen and was responsible for strong economic growth in the region and her reputation for honesty and fair dealings was widely recognised.
Khadija (RA) had the biggest trading conglomerate in the entire region bigger than all of the other Quraysh businesses COMBINED.
And she was well diversified and multi-faceted, offering from spices to textiles to high quality goods.
ALL in a time were the whole world was male dominated, they all respected her and all admired her business success.
Khadija's success in business was a testament to her exceptional skills, entrepreneurial mindset, and strong character.
One fascinating aspect of Khadija's business legacy was her partnership with the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him).
They engaged in profit-sharing agreements, where Khadija would invest her wealth in commercial ventures, and the Prophet (peace be upon him) would oversee the trade activities.
This partnership allowed them to combine their resources, skills, and efforts to generate wealth and support their family.
It exemplified the spirit of cooperation, shared responsibilities, and mutual support that laid the foundation for their harmonious relationship.

Another remarkable aspect of Khadija's business legacy was her unwavering support for the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) during the early days of his prophethood.
Khadija believed in his mission and provided the much-needed financial support and stability to sustain the nascent Muslim community. Her business acumen and resources were instrumental in fostering the growth of Islam.
Khadija's commitment to social responsibility was exemplary. She utilized her wealth and influence to uplift the less fortunate, providing assistance to widows, orphans, and those in need. Her philanthropic endeavors were a shining example of compassion and generosity, reflecting the values of Islam.
The profound love, respect, and partnership between Khadija and the Prophet (peace be upon him) serve as a beautiful example for married couples. Their relationship was built on trust, mutual support, and shared goals, transcending societal norms and cultural expectations.
The story of Khadija and the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) reminds us of the important role that women play in business, leadership, and society.
It highlights the potential for successful partnerships built on trust, cooperation, and shared goals. Their example serves as an inspiration for couples to support and empower each other in their entrepreneurial pursuits.
I hope this has shaken your limiting belief that husband and wife can not be successful working together or that Islam does not encourage it.
Muhammad’s (PBUH) prophethood began during his marriage to Khadija, when he received the first of God’s revelations through the Angel Gabriel (as) that left him frightened, strained and feeling alone when no one believed in him. Khadija comforted her husband and encouraged him during the most difficult days of his life. She bore him six children. He loved no one more than Khadija during his lifetime.

Today, we can draw valuable lessons from Khadija's remarkable journey. Her story teaches us the importance of integrity, perseverance, and using our skills and resources for the betterment of society. We are reminded of the immense potential within each of us to make a positive impact through our entrepreneurial pursuits and acts of kindness.
As we navigate the complexities of the modern world, let us draw inspiration from Khadija's legacy. Let us strive for excellence in our business endeavors, seek knowledge, practice ethical conduct, and support the less fortunate in our communities.
Together, we can honour her memory and contribute to a more prosperous and compassionate society.
